Robbery and serious crime squad detectives joined local investigators in setting up Strike Force Shirley to investigate a series of violent hold-ups across the Hunter.
The robberies included the targeting of the McDonalds restaurant at Williamtown on January 25. Footage of that robbery was released earlier this week.
Strike Force Shirley is also investigating the robbery of the Hunter River Hotelon December 5 when three bandits stormed the East Maitland home armed with a shotgun, knife and baseball bat.
The trio threatened staff and three patrons, and demanded cash. One of the patrons was hit with the baseball bat as he was pushed to the floor. He was not injured.
The men stole cash, purses, and a red tool box before escaping via the back door, and drove away in a white late-model sedan.
Detectives have released closed circuit television footage of two masked menwho “may be able to assist with their inquiries”.
The first man is depicted as being of Caucasian appearance, with a thin build, about 160-170cm tall, and was wearing a blue hooded jumper, and a white cotton face covering.
The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with a thin build, about 160-170cm tall, and was wearing a dark-coloured jumper with a grey hood, and a white cotton face covering.
